Tarot Cards
The standard tarot deck consists of 78 cards. The cards can be divided two basic categories 22 Major Arcana cards (greater secrets) and 56 Minor Arcana cards (lesser secrets).
The Major Arcana cards can be understood as 22 spiritual lessons. The 56 Minor Arcana cards are similar to a modern deck of 52 playing cards. They are divided into four suits. There are ten pip (or numbered cards) plus four court cards in each suit. This is one extra court card per suit if you are comparing it to a deck of playing cards. These cards depict more mundane events an circumstances in a human life. The Court Cards depict people and relationships.
The images on tarot cards are symbolic and refer to an inter-connected network of systems designed to understand and define the human experience including Kabbalah, Numerology, Astrology, Alchemy, Elements, Color Theory, Myth, Magic. The cards are interesting to look at by themselves but even more so to look at them in groups.
