The Kabbalah is a mystical interpretation of the Jewish Scriptures. It consists of a large body of speculation on the nature of divinity, the creation, the origin and fate of the soul, and the role of human beings. It consists also of meditative, devotional, mystical and magical practices which were taught only to a select few and for this reason Kabbalah is regarded as an esoteric offshoot of Judaism. Hermetic Kabbalah originated in Renaissance Italy. This is the variant that was studied by the members of the Golden Dawn. Hermetic Kabbalah is one of the systems that underlie the Tarot Decks created by or influenced by the Golden Dawn including the Rider-Waite-Smith and the Thoth deck. This can be most easily seen in the Pip cards. Where the cards 1-10 correspond to the 10 spheres on the tree of life and the suits correspond to the 4 levels of creation as well as the Tetragrammaton. The numerology of these decks is based on the 10 spheres and not on Pythagorean numerology.

The Tree of Life is a pictorial representation of the Kabbalah. It is a map of consciousness and the way the divine descends in to matter. You can see some images here.

The Tree of Life Spread is a spread that was created based on the Tree of Life. One card is draw for each of the 10 spheres. The cards are arranged in the shape of the tree of life. This site has spreads based on portions of the tree of life.

Book “T” The Tarot

HB:ChKMH The Four Twos symbolize the Powers of the King and Queen just uniting and initiating the Force; but before the Prince and Princess are thoroughly brought into action. Therefore do they generally imply the initiation and fecundation of a thing.

HB:BYNH Realization of action owing to the Prince being produced. The central symbol on each card. Action definitely commenced for good or evil.

HB:ChSD Perfection, realization, completion: making a matter settled and fixed.

HB:GBVRH Opposition, strife and struggle: war; obstacle to the thing in hand. Ultimate success or failure is otherwise shewn.

HB:ThPARTh Definite accomplishment. Thing carried out.

HB:NTzCh Generally shew a force transcending the Material Plane: and is like unto a Crown; which, indeed, is powerful, but requireth one capable of wearing it. The Sevens then shew a possible result: which is dependent on the action then taken. They depend much on the symbols that accompany them.

HB:HVD Solitary success: “i.e.” success in the matter for the time being: but not leading to much result apart from the thing itself.

HB:YSVD Very great fundamental force. Executive power, because they restore a firm basis. Powerful for good or evil.

HB:MLKVTh Fixed, culminated, complete Force, whether good or evil. The matter thoroughly and definitely determined. Ultimating Force.
