Fourfold Breath
I’ve come across this breathing technique in many modalities and from many cultures. It has the effect of slowing down the brainwaves to light alpha which is a great place to be in when doing a tarot reading. Be gentle with yourself and don’t force yourself into uncomfortable breathing. As a note, I’ve watched people in groups fall asleep when doing this so consider keeping your eyes open.
Notice your breath. Count the in and out breaths. Start modifying your breath to make the in and out breath even. When you are ready transition to the four fold breath.
Pick a count to work with. We will use three counts as an example. The more counts the slower the breathing and brainwaves.
- Breath in: 3 counts
- Hold: 3 counts
- Breath out: 3 counts
- Hold: 3 counts
Continue for as long as you wish
